Bravo AMF!

The Against Malaria Foundation (AMF) has once again demonstrated why they deserve to be among our top-rated charities. Their recent agreement to distribute 676,000 bed nets in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is likely to save many lives and provides further evidence that should encourage donors and inspire NGOs. AMF has demonstrated that:

  • It is possible to achieve a high degree of accountability – distribution verification and post-distribution follow-up;
  • It is possible to do so in even the most challenging political, social, and economic circumstances – amidst a civil war in this case;
  • A partnership in which non-net costs are paid for by a willing partner, in this case the Department For International Development (DFID), can be formed.

Donors who are reluctant to give because they are concerned their dollars will not save lives should look to AMF – they deliver. NGOs that do not set high verification standards, because such standards are too cumbersome, should be inspired by what AMF is setting out to achieve in the DRC. We at The Life You Can Save are grateful for AMF’s work. Bravo for a job well done!
